If you are drinking a gallon a day than of course its bad for you. Good judgment and moderation always trump a so called news article like this.
FINALLY!!! An article that explains what is bad about soda. I have stopped drinking soda for almost 5 years since it has impacted my weight.
It is a funny thing that everthing except the thing they want you to drink is bad for you. I am 60 and have drank soda drinks heavy for most of my life and I am in shape and my doc tell me that I am health. It is not the soda, it is sitting on the back side, on the computer, doing nothing, paying some dumba$$ game that leads to over weight kids and adults. Look back over the past and you will see the problem started just around the time that vidio games where becoming main stream. We spent hours outside playing even in the winter, kid don't do this today like we did then. I will admit over eating and what we eat has allot to do with being over weight but it is just part of the formula, lack of activity is part also.
I googled saccharin and found out it's harmless. People need to look things up themselve and not believe the junk science that is posted.

The warning has now been removed from saccharin-containing products.
Here, on Yahoo, was a recent article which clearly stated that artificial sweeteners are not harmful when used in moderation. And now they post an article that says the opposite. Conclusion? Do not pay any attention to these silly Yahoo articles.
There already is tax on pop. Doctors always want new excise taxes on something. Why don't they just tax doctors at about 70% on their income.
If they want to make economic policy, they should pay for its failure.
there are all kinds of things out there that are bad for us .everone is responsable for their own actions i dont think a tax is what we need Lord knows we have to many as it is what we need is better awareness of what we are injesting and even though i know that coke is bad for me i still love it and i will never stop drinking it .bottom line you dont tax something more because its bad for you thats bogus and we dont need anyone trying to tell us what we all should be doing or not doing put the info out there and let people decide for themselves what is good or bad for themselves its our bodies
Well this sucks i'm going to STILL drink my mountain dew because it taste great i still water, juice, and even an occasional mocha frappe.
It is so true!! I loved a glass of Dr. pepper or a Coke but I would drink about 4 cans a day of it, and 6 mo. ago I quit cold turkey and in 30 days I dropped 8 pounds just from quiting soda! I feel better too! I still have a gingerale once in a while.
HFCS- HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP- sugar substitute your body has a hard time digesting or cannot digest at all...
ie: COCA-COLA classic- remember in the 80's when they change the "new coke" well ADD HFCS in place of the cane real natural sugar...because COKE can buy CHEAPER HFCS vs CANE SUGAR...
SODA MANUFACUTURER will NOT CHANGE TO CANE SUGAR becuase of your health --- they make so much money using HFCS THAT THEY ARE EXPECTING BIG BONUSES this year...they don't care about your health..
Some would say moderation helps, but what is moderation? One a day? Your body is still taking in more daily sugar than it's suppose to with just one coke a day. That doesn't count the sugar in the yogurt/orange juice you had for breakfast; the cookie you had after lunch; the cheesecake you ate after dinner.
"...simple sugars — or worse, sugar substitutes ..." Wasn't there an article a few days ago claiming sugar subs were not as bad as once believed? Contradiction much?
COCA-COLA is marketing again COCA COLA classic but it has HFCS and still doesn't taste like the coke i use to drink...
only the coca cola from mexico, asia and europe has real cane sugar depending on where you get it... and really taste like to coke i use to drink... somebody should sue coca-cola for false advertising on

i think soda isn't all that bad.. but it can't be the only think you drink all day. most people don't drink water or milk or health juices. if you drink nothing but sugar all day you should know you're going to get fat. Drink diet coke is just as bad as regular coke... most people don't care what goes into there body until something bad happen to there health then the want to blame the company they bought the produce from ... USE COMMON SENSE.
The one thing they did not mention is that soda can eat your insides out. This is true and the only way it will do that is if you drink alot of soda each day. But all these reasons are why I don't drink soda. I used to drink it, but after finding all this out, don't want it and you do gain weight from it. There is other drinks out there you can drink everyone. Just drink them instead especially if they are healthy for you.
i haven't had a soda in 13 years and i don't miss them a bit! i drink unsweetened iced tea with just a tiny bit of artificial sweetener and iced water. sodas are too sweet, taste salty and the carbonation makes you feel bloated. yuck.
You fail to mention that tea contains caffeine. Doesn't this off-set some of its benefits?
water contains little to no vitamins or other essential nutrients.....tax a holes also looking for the buck here. Whats next fresh air tax.......
I work as a commissioned saleperson, for a major soft drink company, and everyone here knows that soft drinks are ACTUALLY good for you and can be a healthy alternative to water.
Drink lots of soft drinks; they are good for you.
Okay, there is one "scientific fact" that just should be overlooked here. Aspertame is found to cause Bladder Cancer in lab rats...ARE WE LAB RATS? I think not. No, I don't believe that sodas are good for you in any way at all. They increase dehydration, cause weight gain, and the acid levels cause many digestive problems. It doesn't hurt to occasionally indulge yourself with one though. Aspertame has been found to be much safer than natural sugar. Unlike natural sugar, aspertame doesn't cause type 2 diabetes. I am still disgusted that they used lab rats to determine what is safe for a human. A lab rat does not have the same system or bodily functions as a human and is not a suitable way to test the safety of a chemical for a human.
I completely cut out sodas and sweets 2 months ago and have lost 4 inches in my waist (just by doing this alone) and feel so much better. Give it a try!
if soda pop is bad for your health then maybe the companies should go bankrupt and stop aking their pops
They failed to mention on how soda kills your kidneys...point blank! If anyone doubts that, go ahead and google it yourself or ask any dialysis patient that I have. Dark or clear soda...it all does the dirty deed and you run the huge risk of ending up seeing one me 3x's a week...trust me...not fun!
i think this is very good cause soda could really harm u i cant drink dark soda cause of my body or som but its really bad for u
Carbonated water with fresh lime juice and mint leaves is an incredibly refreshing and healthier substitute for soda. Adding a little fruit juice or squeezed ginger root to soda water is also really really good, and so much better for you....
I like to drink iced tea with a splash of juice like cranberry or other flavors to add a little sweetness.
