He didn't want to kill fellow Muslims in Afghanistan. Not even to bring them around to a non-violent route.

His extremist islamic belief overwhelms his judgement. His should have realized that by going to Aghanistan, he's helping the good muslims from being persecuted by the bad muslims. It's too bad that he turns against the people who helped his parents and gave him an education. Last but not least, as usual, he managed to kill women but then, he was also shot by a woman.
