Mich. looks at worst-case 20 percent budget cuts (AP)

AP - Michigan's governor warned Tuesday of a possible 20 percent cut in state spending next year, a draconian step after billions in cuts since 2003 have already dented police and fire services, pushed schools toward insolvency and reduced oversight of prison inmates. » Full Story on Yahoo! News

I live in Michigan. We've been stuggling since the 80s. No Jobs, Cold weather. It's naturally beautiful, but not a good place to live. The last person here needs to turn off the light. It's a dying place.

Michigan failed to diversify industry in early 1980's. Now, 25 years and a generation later, we need to think like early settlers. Starting with meager resources, build a society and economic engine that pays our bonds, education, highway, health care (any system), gov't pensions, prisons and courts. Looking forward to listening to politicians, college profs, and business people who have solid ideas.

The path to a sucessful business is narrow, especially for those who are just starting out and are taking what is likely to be the first and only best shot. For these folks and established firms the percentage of revenue that must be surrended to their community for the priviledge of operating there may make all the difference. Michigans Governor has finally learned this lesson. Her initiative to lure movie studios to this State was and is for the moment a huge success. The core of the initiative is substantial tax breaks for those companies. One may argue as some have that the state needs those funds the company pockets but they fail to acknowledge the income revenue generated from all the employees. Do you want Michigan to rebound? Cut Taxes on business to near zero and hold your breath until the revenue starts to flow in, stop looking at business as robbers and more as saviors.
