Lawmakers seek ban on laptops in airliner cockpits (AP)

AP - Lawmakers are moving to ban the use of computer laptops and other personal electronic devices in airline cockpits to prevent another incident like the Northwest Airlines plane that overshot Minneapolis by 150 miles. » Full Story on Yahoo! News

I think on the subject of lap tops they just need to have someone make an announcement to them that it is time to put your seat backs in the upright position and stow your electronic equipment. They are adults, let's just remind them, not punish them yet.

So now they want to do the job of the airlines personel department? What next, will they see a roach on the streets of Podunk Maine and write a law banning roaches from being seen on public streets? Don't these guys have anything else better to do, like downsize government?

Computers in the cockpit? Whatever happened to making the flight attendant sit and spin on your junk? Provided it is a chick of course...

If the reason we passengers can't use laptops is because their use interferes with flight navigation equipment, what in the hell are cockpit personel doing using them in the first place? They are either lying to us or endangering our lives. Obviously it's the former otherwise they would have blamed being off course on the latter. And of course they should be banned in the freaking cockpit! Those yahoos should be paying attention to the instruments not surfing the porno sites. Idiots!

150 mile overshoot and 30 minutes is nothing when you are in a holding pattern at a major airport where you are sometimes diverted close to that distance. Geesh........I thought congress was supposed to be focusing on healthcare, the environment, housing; certainly not laptops!

Just what we need the goverment sticking their nose into something else and passing more stupid laws. A very predictable over reaction. The air line can handle this without the republicans, the democrates, or any other politician getting involved

NO BRAINER, Let's go with the computer story because that will keep Congress and the FAA from addressing the real issue of pilot duty time.
Do you really think that these two VETERAN aviators with a total of 25,000 flight hours were so involved with the laptops that they failed to hear the myriad of calls including the emergency frequencies along with calls from the company dispatcher which came via a telephone type ringer ?
These incidents will continue until a major disaster forces the Government and the airlines to re-address the archaic work rules that in some instances were created prior to the jet age.

Isn't in great to live in a country where the government has time to legislate the obvious - since we have a vibrant economy, excellent infrastructure, no pollution, no wars or anything else for our "leaders" to be concerned about guess they must have to find something to keep them busy.
