Auto sales show industry beginning to stabilize (AP)

AP - After months of roller coaster-like sales, the auto industry offered signs of recovery from its yearlong slump on Tuesday, as most automakers reported higher levels of U.S. sales in October. » Full Story on Yahoo! News

Let's look closely at these numbers....176,000+ light vehicles sold, which represents a 4.7% over LAST year's sales for the same month. BIG DEAL. So factor in the Cash for Idiots (Clunkers) and 100 to 1 GM gave its employees HUGE incentives to buy their own cars at factory prices to get 'em off the lot and make it look like they were "selling" them. Puffed up numbers with no true values attached--SALES may have risen, but PROFITS died. They are GIVING away their cars at this point. In AUG 2009, just a scant 3 months ago, GM sold 246,479 cars in that month alone. WHERE DO THEY GET OFF SAYING SALES ROSE? In Aug. the sales were down 20%...What a play on numbers. We aren't BUYING it, GM/Ford.

Here's the link showing Aug 2009 GM sales down 20%....

I still refuse to buy one until they
A. Get rid of ALL senior managers
B. Get rid of UAW
This mess needs a clean sweep.

I will never purchase a Chrysler or GM product. Period.

The president owes the former car dealerships a long over-due apology!

Just because the cash for clunkers deal sold a LOT of cars doesn't mean that people will continue to buy! It was a band-aid! Sit back and watch the wound rip open again as sales plummet in Q1 of 2010!!!

My God, Bowl of Stupid, I can't believe you posted the crap you just did. Ever look at how cars are evaluated? What cars come out at the very BOTTOM, as in "pieces of shite"--Pontiac, GM, Chrysler, Daewoo, Jeep, Olds and Ford/Chevy cars and small trucks. The ONLY thing Ford does right is the large truck. PERIOD. Best selling truck of all time? Toyota Tacoma, TRD, T100, etc--hell, dealers can't even keep up with the BACK ORDERS on Toyota trucks. Dear God--get your hands on the last 20 years of Consumer Reports and check out every year's NEW CARS/TRUCKS RATED and BEST BUY FOR 2nd HAND before you go off and say such idiocy as you've just done here....and STOP eating your bowls of STUPID!

It is true that Hyundai and Kias are worth very little after the first sale. Subaru is another matter entirely--In this region of the country--they bring a premium. But--many people will NOT buy a Government Motors or Chrysler (Fix It Again Tony FIAT) vehicle because of the government bailout.
Ford is, however showing a profit last quarter, and if they can get rid of the bloodsucking unions--they may end up the last U.S. automaker in business.
It is unfortunate that Ford cannot deal with the useless socialist union the way Henry did, which was to have company thugs beat up union organizers and have them thrown off Ford property--preferably (to Henry) in a severely mangled state.

I will never buy a GM or Chrysler product ever! since they becames wards of the state and the Unions somehow managed to illegally get more ownership than the rightful bondholders. Since Oblamas payback to the unions I will never buy another product from GM or Chrysler! Ford is the only domestic car company that didn't sell their soul to Oblama and the unions. GM and Chrysler deserve their rightful place in bancruptcy! where they should have been 1 year ago but instead we the american people have subsidized the car companies so that the Liberal Voting Unions could keep their jobs. What Bullsh!t!!!

I too will never buy another big 3 vehicle again. I am 49 and buy a new vehicle every two years. I have a 2005 Dodge Dakota Quad Cab LEMON that has been sitting in my yard the past three years. It has turned from factory white to algae green during that time. Chrysler must die. Die Chrysler Die. And GM can follow suit. The UAW will finish off Ford. Never again. Never. I believe Chrysler will file Chapter 7 by April 1, 2010. Not fast enough for me but I will relish the moment it happens.

Imagine that car sales are up and this signals the end of a crappy few years??? How stupid are these people??? The only reason car sales were up is because of the wonderful cash for clunkers program. I live in Michigan and I know just how bad it sucks!! These so called experts need to get their heads out of their @#!@ because nothing is better anywhere in Michigan!!

I was thinking about getting a new GM vehicle every 60 days. I will just take each of them back and say I don’t like it. Is the production up to fill the lots at the dealerships that were emptied by the cash for clunkers? GM (government motors) is looking for more bailout money. How can they get more bailout money when they turned a profit?

prana, please stop with the blame Bush, it is sooooo old style to do that, you cannot even think he paralized the country in 8 years as Barry did in 6 months. Come on now. Kool aid is bad for the brain.
Please answer this simple question... At what point in Barry's one and only term will he take responsibility for actions he has taken, and the end result he himself has caused? Please, I will check back in a day, week or month to see if you can answer that one little question.
