GM has a great looking lineup of cars that get great gas mileage.It is beyond me how they cannot make a profit.It HAS to be lousy bloated incompetent management.Put me in there and i will fix this mess.UM and no i wont ask for a million dollars a year and a private jet to do it.They even have an awesome camaro as well that should outnumber the mustang but with their management it will never happen! put me in there..Gvngman@yahoo.com

Otherwise, these displaced workers would have to be placed on a "recall list" like the Canadians. They would be paid 75% of their wage to sit around waiting to return to a job that no longer existed. I have a Canadian cousin who's been on this GM free money tit for almost 2 years. ALL PAID FOR by the US taxpayer.
ONLY the American workers are laid to collect piss ant unemployment benefits.
They're also stuck with Saturn after the Penske deal fell apart. Less brands like they did with Oldsmobile and soon Pontiac. Then Buick. Ford should do the same. Make better Cars instead. Too late for Chrysler!
Another GM (government motors) power move. This is what happens when the government takes control. It becomes politics over business. As a nation we will never see another Pontiac Trans Am, but we will see Opals, just to keep the Russians from owning that. No problem with the Chinese owning Hummer…

Frankly I'm happy that one of our car companies now feels confident enough about its future to no longer need a desperate fire sale of one of it's biggest subsidiaries to stay afloat.
I bet a lot of you were mad when GM said it was selling Opel, now you're mad they aren't.
I'd rather have this outcome than foreign companies buying all of our industries piece by piece.
Look at all the great stuff M-Benz did for American jobs and know-how when they took over Chrysler. (Not!) Hummer? Let the Chinese have it. It's basically just a name.
GM made some major dumb decisions these past 20 years or so but they have done a lot recently to pull their act together. They need Opel and a global scale to stay in the game. The other companies know this too.
If US cars makers are so awful, how come Jaguar, Volvo and Aston Martin are the best they've been in years thanks to Ford? I know a lot of Japanese people who love Opels, they are one of the few non-luxury, non-Japanese cars you can see in Japan.
Mean while dealers and american workers are being left by the way side by GM. Buy Ford a true american company. Obamanation doesnt have his greasy check writing hand in Ford.
Did you guys get this upset when Chrysler got loans (That they paid back with interest) in the 80's?
They flourished after that, until MB bought them and got them to where they are now.
Ford would be in big trouble too if GM or Chrysler fell, a lot of parts makers (not to mention consumers) would be out of business.
So they're going to keep the "Poor man's Corvette", like that ever worked out. What the hell is a matter with these guys - keep GMC for Trucks and make 3 Chevy's, a Cadillac, and the Vette, and to hell with all this engineering for cars that no one wants. When I grew up, and you saw a Chevy coming down the road, you knew it was a Chevy!
Johnson and Johnson, a well run & admired company with employees all over the worls, is about to lay off 8,000 workers.
Let's hate them and their remaining workers and blame Obama!
