West Africa's last giraffes make surprise comeback (AP)

AP - A crisp African dawn is breaking overhead, and Zibo Mounkaila is on the back of a pickup truck bounding across a sparse landscape of rocky orange soil. » Full Story on Yahoo! News

200 in West Africa and less than 100,000 overall is not much a testament to the worth of humans. Further proof that God's "chosen" beings are nothing more than a cancer on the planet.

Time to start over!

The Earth is beginning to purge the vermin. Surely, Nature will prevail.

I'm a little more optimistic. After the purge, humans will find a way into space permanently.

I'm not so optimistic for the giraffes, though. They are peaceful. That makes them vulnerable.

It's good to see someone making a comeback. If you can make a comeback in West Africa, you can make one anywhere!

".... a rare harmony with villagers who have accepted their presence — for now."
Wow! Is this a joke! Africans just like the Native Americans have lived in harmony with nature for thousands of years. They only hunt & killed what they want eat. African did not mass-slaughter/extinguish entire animal species. The author of this article is showing extreme, reckless and racist ignorance of the facts. It with the arrivals of europeans in sub-saharan africa & colonization that these well preserved animals started to decline and disappear. For exemple, it was a very popular sports of europeans/americans to go on safaris with their land rovers with machine guns mounted on roof to enjoy the random, savage and ghastly slaughters of tigers, giraffe, lions, leopards, rhinos etc...Check the facts folks!

this the problem with european mindset.
they always have their heads in outer
space rather than on the earth where they
belong and will never escape.
what do you think you will do when you get
to space? you'll be peace loving
people?... please... with all the gold,
and precious stones out there...it would
be bloody and messy...
listen, the problem is not with the planet
it's with inhabitant... there must be a
change of heart and mindset first...
please accept these simple words of
wisdom.

God bless the giraffes and all God's creatures. I hope they make it. They don't deserve what we've done to them.

They should kill a few Africans to make room for the giraffes.

The giraffe is a beautiful animal. I agree they deserve a chance just as other living creature's. I pray they will survive & have off more off spring.

Giraffes are some of my favorite animals. Their remarkable stature and dramatic colors are a beautiful contrast to their austere disposition. At the zoo, these guys can see a way out.
