Many people including folks in the Latino community think that there are not race issues in their countries. The thought is that since they didn't have Jim Crow-like laws on the books there was no racism. I think Sammy in all his success (juiced or not) still was met with differences because of his darker complexion and may have longed to be like the white complected Latino people who are undoubtedly more powerful in his country.
